Okay, this is a bit different - instead of looking for a smash mouth game winning list I am trying to make a fun, interesting list to help get some friends (who already have full armies) to start playing the game. I want it to be a decent and competitive list to take against newbies - they would know if I sandbagged too much. They know I tend to make solid competitive lists in 40K but don't abandon the "fluff". I am trying to do the same here, but with a bit lighter touch.

It is surprisingly difficult for me to not think in terms of what is best and all synergy. Weird.

Anyway, I am hoping that this list will be fun to play and play against - and I really don't care about winning - fun is the most important thing. I want them to see all that WFB can be in all the different phases (obviously magic is out for me) but I tried to include movement, shooting and combat as well as a some of the more interesting dwarf themes (slayers and longbeards). Anyway, anyone up for the challenge of making a fun light list?

So, without further waffling.

Verag Frostbeard (Thane - General), GW, Shield, Runes of Resistance and Stone, MR of challenge

Gurni Bombilsson (Dragon Slayer)

15 Warriors, Full Command, Shield

10 Thunderers, Shield

14 Longbeards, Great Weapon, Shield, Full Command

6 Troll Slayers

1 Gyrocopter

1 Bolt Thrower, Engineer, Rune of Penetrating

Okay, no really, that is just me, I was looking through some old pics and this is from around last Christmas - I thought it would make a good pic for this blog.

Khazad Galaz

The Gilded Fortress. This is the name I have decided upon for the home of my throng (army) of dwarfs. As a note, I chose the spelling dwarfs because that is the way GW has done so. Also, a quick check of wikipedia shows that is the more proper way - dwarves was brought into use by JRR Tolkein and it is thought that he chose that spelling to be in line with elf/elves - it would have a consistency that would make it easier to follow. Apparently dwarrows is the most accurate. I digress, check it out for yourself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf - I suppose I fall into the grammarian camp. As a writer I reckon that is appropriate. As a final point, I just like the way dwarfs sounds better in my head.

Here is a little bit more on the wealthy dwarfs who dwell within those gilded halls and the ancient keep itself. Undoubtedly I will be adding to this as I do rather enjoy going on, but that will be at a point in the future.

It is tradition in Khazad Galaz that no dwarf leaves the hold without exactly 32oz of gold on his person in the form of rings, teeth, torcs or even bags of gold dust. It is reckoned that this is the minimum amount necessary to establish one self in the event that one's gold is stolen while away.

Khazad Galaz tends to be a bit more cosmopolitan than many holds and deal quite heavily with other races - they are renowned business men and investors who smell opportunity like other dwarfs smell gems hidden beneath the earth.

Lord Hrethric Farstrider is the newly invested Lord of the Hold - prior to his ascension to the throne he was his father's ambassador to many of the lands of men earning his honorific of Farstrider thusly.

Thane Verag Frostbeard leads the advance column whenever the throngs march to war. He is dour and taciturn at most times, though on the battlefield his eyes light up like those of a beardling and he is the first to begin singing the songs of the ancestors.

Thane Olga Hammerdottir travels with the advance column as well and is responsible for the logistical operations though she is not afraid to lead in battle.

Trusty old Healfdane the Gray has the honor of bearing the Lord's runic standard.

Two of the finest engineers in the Dwarrowhalls are currently in the employ of Lord Hrethric; Bjorn the Halfhanded and Hectar Firetamer will manage the not insignificant warmachine contingent. Between then they bring along with a score of their most promising apprentices.

Finally, no throng marches to war without the support of the Runic guild and Khazad Galaz is no exception. The famed Runelord Skald Goldfriend has brought along his own personal retinue of Runesmiths. Some of them will no doubt earn their honorific in the coming years, but for now, they are just all called Runesmith.

An introduction

I have decided to start playing Warhammer Fantasy Battle and have been fortunate to kind of blunder in to 2 complete Dwarf armies (which is especially fortuitous as I have long been a fan of the longbeards).

A great starting point for me is the Animosity2 campaign being run by Da Warpath (I think). http://z3.invisionfree.com/Animosity2/index.php

This is the bit of background that I have come up with to represent the fortunate son, if you will.

I, Hrethric Farstrider, newly invested prince of Khazad Galaz, will lead my throng forth in this time of need as promised by my grandsire, Merroic Seafarer, to your ancestor Anaahan al-Jubal thereby fulfilling our oath which, you will recall, established the trade of our baser minerals for the black water that flows in the desert. Also, at this time, I would like to remind you that 817 years ago, according to our records, a shipment of tin and iron was sent forth to your lands and returned empty with word of a plague or some such from your homeland. Our sympathies go out to you and we look forward to receiving said payment of black water which, given a very reasonable interest rate, now amounts to 8,251 and one third barrels of said liquid. To show that there are no hard feelings on our part over this disruption of trade, we will cut the amount outstanding to a mere 8250 barrels.

Expect my herald, Verag Frostbeard at the head of our point guard to arrive in escort of the two cargo ships bearing empty barrels to reclaim this outstanding debt. Once it has been paid, we will continue with the agreed upon exchange rate of minerals for black water. Verag will stay and prepare for the coming of the full throng and has my fullest confidence as well as authority to lead said dawi into battle at his discretion.

Hrethric Farstrider, Prince of Khazad Galaz
